Viva Las Vegas!

While I am not a personal fan of Las Vegas, you can't visit America without getting a glimpse of the decadent American society!  With two more suitcases packed to the brim, we leave Austin for Las Vegas for the last leg of our adventure.

We timed it so we would have one day to explore Las Vegas and maybe take in a show.  We are arriving in October so the weather is warm but not uncomfortable.  We have our rooms at the Luxor Hotel which is built like a pyramid and I had asked if we could have a free upgrade to be in the nicer section of the hotel.  It's a big hotel and every section of elevators goes to different floors.  So naturally the first ones we tried took us to the wrong section and we had to come back down!  Then Jim decided maybe "I was right" and we took the right ones to our floor.  We said good bye to Eddy and Betty in the hall and arranged to meet up for a walk and lunch.  I expected to have a nice queen or king size room like I had before but when we open the door I found we have a one bedroom suite!  It is gorgeous and I am wondering if their room is the same?  Eddy and Betty knock on the door and as they walk into the room they tell us the bath tub is huge!  We are feeling like royalty in these rooms when Eddy asks how much it costs and does he owe us any "extra".  It is my pleasure to tell him that I got our rooms for $50 each!  It just goes to show it pays to give good reviews on Trip Advisor!

It's a nice day so we take a walk around the area and see a few of the casinos.  We also arrange to see a Magician Show that night with Chris Angel.  Figured it was a nice little splurge since we made out so well with the rooms!  We even give ourselves time for a short nap.

Betty and I decide we will bring jacket/sweater as the casinos can get really cold.  As we walk around the casino and later sit and have a drink and do our favorite thing "people watch", we look at some of the women in their fancy dresses and all we can think is "she's going to freeze in that dress!"

We watch with a sense of humor the tour groups that come in and follow their lady or guy "with the sign".  Jim shakes his head at the people who come in wearing those ridiculous pjs and what he calls "shower shoes" and we wonder, does America have any "dignity or taste " left?

The Chris Angel show is interesting and once again as Betty sees these girls come in half dressed and we are already cold and have our sweaters on wonders "aren't they going to freeze?"

The next day finds us making our way towards the three rims of the Grand Canyon.  I am hoping I have not made a mistake---maybe we didn't need to do all three?  I have only seen the South Rim and they say the North Rim, which is less visited, is superb too and we just have to go to the west rim and do the Sky Walk!

It's a 6 hour drive from Las Vegas to the North Rim and Betty and Eddy get to see a different view of the landscape as we venture out into the dessert.

Next:  The North Rim
